RICHARD A. MOSQUEDA is a queer director & producer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Richard is passionate about new plays that are full of heart, epic in scope, structurally ambitious, and theatrically imaginative. He is drawn to stories about social misfits who find their power through their idiosyncracies. Their work celebrates and empowers the LGBTQ+ community with a focus on stories from Latine/x Diaspora.
They recently directed the World Premiere of Marga Gomez’s Spanish Stew at New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC); other NCTC directing credits include the World Premiere of Nick Malakhow’s A Picture of Two Boys, the West Coast Premiere of C. Julian Jiménez’s Locusts Have No King, the YouthAware touring production of Prince Gomolvilas’ Outspoken, and Nathan Tylutki’s Francis Grey and the Case of His Dead Boyfriend.
Richard was recently in residence at The Ground Floor at Berkeley Rep, where he developed 41: A Queer Ball, a project based on the early 20th Century Mexican scandal El Baile De Los 41. For this project, he will collaborate with writer Jesús I. Valles and dramaturg Karina Gutiérrez to create a unique, genre-defying theatrical event that incorporates dance, drag cabaret, poetry, and music.
Richard was formerly the Artistic Producer for Marin Theatre Company and a Co-Founder/Lead Producer for Epic Party Theatre in San Francisco, which is currently on hiatus. They have been the Director in Residence for New Conservatory Theatre Center, a two-year recipient of the National New Play Network’s (NNPN) Producer in Residence Program, and a member of SDC Foundation's 2017-18 Observership Class, where he observed Tony Award-Nominated director, Leigh Silverman.
He is a graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago.
